ABOUT THE LEAD ORGANISATIONS

The International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED) has worked for over 30 years as an independent, non-profit research institute in the field of sustainable development. IIED collaborates extensively with organisations in Africa, Asia and Latin America. (See www.iied.org for further information on our activities).

ANPED, the Northern Alliance for Sustainability is a major network of civil society organisations aiming for sustainable societies world-wide. It was centrally involved in the facilitation and co-ordination of civil-society activities during the WSSD and it's preparatory processes and is partnered with multiple international civil society organisations and networks.

The UN Department for Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) provided useful advice in the preparation of the disk. We have also had valuable guidance and support from a key group of civil society organisations: notably the International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives (ICLEI); WWF International; Third World Network; the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions (ICFTU); Greenpeace; Consumers International; the Environment Liaison Centre International (ELCI); the International Chambers of Commerce; the World Business Council for Sustainable Development; the UN Non-Governmental Liaison Service; and the Danish '92 NGO Coalition.
